Unsatisfied with your work? Start here, now.

Is your daily mantra "I hate my job?"

Take a Step Back to Identify the Problem: Why Do You Hate Your Job?

If you're unsatisfied with your work this is where you need to start. You're unhappy and looking for something you're here because you're unsatisfied in someone you're not living in a way that feels like it's clicked. The fact that you realize that you can do something about being unhappy is the start. There's lack somewhere. But where?

Here are 5 steps to take if you are unsatisfied with your work.

Examine your personal values:

#1 If your daily mantra is "I hate my job" it's time to do some looking inward.

First things first. If you hate your work, you need to examine your values what is it that's truly important to you. What are your non-negotiables? What are your beliefs? What are those things that you gut-check whenever you make a large decision? Now ask yourself how you want to honor those values in your work.

If you're miserable, it's most likely because your values don't align with your work.

You want more or less but you're not quite sure where to start.  figuring out why and how you got here will allow you to set goals and reach Milestones that are in line with your values and priorities. once you're in alignment with those things the dissatisfaction will disappear.

Pinpoint what you dislike about your current job:

#2 You need to figure out where are you currently.

Ask yourself you need to ask yourself what you want more of and what you want less of. Do you need different types of co workers? More positive feedback? More focus on mental health? Just general, overall well being?

What problem are you looking to solve? Is is the job itself? Is it that you're feeling stuck? Or need a better send of work life balance?

What are you unsatisfied with specifically? Before you look for your next position, protect yourself from falling into a similar job! Don't make a career change only to find yourself in a similar work environment.

 What are you lacking?

Before you just quit today, use your time wisely and acknowledge what you need more of in the long run. Are you lacking resources that keep you in a state of chronic stress at your job? Do you lack a good boss? (Seriously, not having a bad boss can work wonders!)

Figure out what sort of career would make you fulfilled:

#3 Determine what your definition of success is. And ask what would a successful career mean to you?

Is a successful career 'better opportunity'? Ok, but what do you mean by that? Is it great colleagues and a chance to make a difference in the world? Before you take next steps into y our future blindly, decide what would not only allow you to not hate your job but to stay positive and feel truly successful.

Who you want to be and by when?

#4 Outline the first three goals that you would like to accomplish to reach that definition of success.

You hate work because you have ambitions to do things differently. Not just job-wise but your whole working life. But before you write that resignation letter and update your LinkedIn profile acknowledge what your ambitions are.

Not only should you set general goals but you should determine what dates do you want to reach these by. In essence you want to create a personal, professional action plan. Can you reach these goals in your current job? Do you hate your job so much that you need a new career? Do you just need a new position within six months?

Don't just hate your job, do something about it.

#5 you need to commit to an action today that will move you towards finding work or creating work that is satisfying.

Other than writing out your escape plan, what is that tiny step you can do today to lead yourself towards a job you don't hate?

You don't need to be on the search for a passion-filled "dream job" but you should be prepared for a new job search.

Your professional life should only be a part of your personal life. But even if it's only a part-time part, if you hate your job that is going to effect your well being and you need to be prepared for a "next job."

Yours in you don’t have to hate your job goodness,

EBS
