5 Reasons Why You Need Career Coaching

EB Sanders Career Coaching

Do you want to get a new job so that you can get a bigger paycheck?

Do you want to find a new career so that you enjoy what you do?

Do you want to start a business so that you can start living the fulfilling life you want?

Do you just want to redo your resume so that you can snag a job with stellar health insurance?

If you’re a person who works for a living who wants to be happier and make more money, you, my good human, are in the right place.

Before I discovered career coaching, I struggled with knowing where to even start looking for a job that I would enjoy, that also paid my bills (something that teaching was not doing at the time).

I’ve talked A LOT about what it was like to have to not only a new job, but a new career. It was heartbreaking, frustrating, annoying and I felt like I was stumbling around in the dark. I had absolutely no idea where to start or what steps to take.

I read the books you’re supposed to read, journaled my but off, researched, talked to people. But nobody really had any answers that made sense for me. In some of my research I found articles by career coaches who had interviewed people about their jobs. The jobs didn’t interest me, but the idea of having someone to help me figure out what my next job should be? That felt right.

I found my next career and was happily plugging away for several years. But, and maybe because I just have one of those faces, coworkers and friends came to me for career advice I realized how many other people were also struggling with the desire to figure out their careers, I knew I had to find a way to help myself – and them.

Now, after yet another career change, as a coach I help others find work that works for them every day. My clients work out what career will make them happy, allow them to live the life they want, pay them the salary they deserve and let them do work they find meaningful. I can’t think of a better career for myself.

If you want to have someone by your side to help you figure out what work you’re meant to be doing (or how to do your current work even better), coaching can help you, too.

Here are 5 reasons why you need career coaching.

Reason #1: You’ll Have Help & Support

It’s easy to get distracted by everything life throws at us, isn’t it? But it doesn’t have to derail you, not with a coach by your side.

When you learn how to engage in the big questions, you’ll get more of the important things done.

One of the greatest benefits of career coaching is the accountability and support it provides.

A career coach acts as your trusted partner, holding you accountable for your goals and commitments.

They provide ongoing support, motivation, and guidance throughout your career journey.

With a career coach on your team, you are more likely to stay focused, overcome challenges, and achieve your desired outcomes.

For example:

One of my clients, Gina, wanted to change careers. She was ‘pretty sure’ she knew what she wanted her next role to be and had even picked up a few freelance projects. On our consult call she admitted that she didn’t feel she was ready for coaching because she still wasn’t 100% concretely sure about her next steps.

After some cajoling to get her to understand that that is exactly where I’m the most useful we started working together. As I do with all my clients, I jumped in with the BIG questions right off the bat.

There were a few tears (not because I’m mean, but because this stuff gets deep) and then soon after there were big ol’ A Ha!s and “Yes, this is what I want’s!”

I walk her through the steps she already know she needed to take and supported her as she took on a big, scary, happy making new career.

Reason #2: You’ll Gain Clarity

If you want to get somewhere, you need to know where you’re going! Once you know what you want, you can figure out a plan, lose the frustration, and start gaining momentum.

One of the primary benefits of working with a career coach is gaining clarity on your vision and goals.
Career coaches have the expertise to help you uncover your passions, strengths, and values.
Through targeted conversations and assessments, they assist you in identifying your professional aspirations and aligning them with your personal values. This clarity allows you to set specific, actionable goals that drive your career forward.

Back in the early days of my career change adventure, I was completely lacking in direction because I was completely lacking in clarity about what I wanted my career to look like, feel like or provide. It wasn’t until my first coaching session with a no-nonsense coach who basically demanded that I answer those questions for myself before we continued that I had any sort of lightbulb moments.

Reason #3: You’ll Get Tailored Career Planning

The best way to craft a career is to create a career plan. My coaching program, will enable you to do it with confidence and get results.

Learning this technique will help you create a personalized roadmap for your career development and growth that makes sense for your wants and needs, not some cookie cutter idea of “success.”

Reason #4: You’ll Gain Confidence

Do you suffer from what’s known as ‘Imposter Syndrome’? You’re not alone - almost everyone on the planet does at times, so don’t feel bad about it. Instead, take action!

Self-confidence is one of the key factors in achieving career success.

A career coach serves as your cheerleader and advocate, helping you build confidence in your abilities and talents.

We provide constructive feedback, celebrate your achievements and help you recognize your worth.

Through personalized coaching techniques, career coaches help you develop a positive mindset, overcome self-doubt, and embrace new challenges with self-assurance.

When you gain a deeper understanding of who you are, what you want and what you are good at, you’ll feel more confident about your expertise, and that helps to keep those Imposter feelings at bay.

Here’s what I mean:

When you confident at your core, there are inherently fewer times when you’ll question your expertise, experience or opinion.

Reason #5: You’ll Make More Money

We work to pay bills, help people, live our lives but we all need, and deserve, to be happy in the work we’re doing. Even folx who know exactly what they want to do and how to do it need a solid support system if they want to continue enjoy what it is they do and be happy.

And did you know that folx who are happy in their jobs make more money!! Over the long term, not only do they make more money but they also live longer.

So, when you hire a coach to help you design your career, you’ll learn how to be happy and confident in your work meaning you’d better get ready to increase your income!
