Do you want to get a new job before the end of the year?
There is no time like the present to get started, but sometimes being overwhelmed and exhausted can hold you back.
Consider me your fairy job getting godmother!
With the 5 super actionable job search strategies in this post, you'll be on your way to that new job ASAP.
Hint: Hidden in the depths of this post, you may find a bit of freebie bonus content to help you on your journey. Here’s the first one:
#1: Gather your information
Do you ever sit down with your laptop, ready to crack on with your job search, only to realize that you need to stop whatever you're doing because you don't have everything you need?
Whether you're networking or sending out your resume, your first step should always be gathering everything you need for success.
One of the most brilliant tools that can help you organize your job search is a simple, old school notebook. Available wherever anything is sold (and probably in a stack you already own).
#2: Calendar Block for Success
One of my favorite strategies is calendar blocking small chunks of time, dictated by a Pomodoro timer to keep me on task. I find it also helps clients get on top of everything they need to do in their job search too.
You’ve probably heard of Calendar or Time Blocking before and it's easy enough to do, but it isn't always something you can really excel at without practice.
Blocking off 30 minutes or less just one or two times a day and here’s the hard part, stopping when it’s over, is key to keeping your job search from getting overwhelming.
When you give yourself limited time to do the thing, you streamline the process down to the most effective pieces and crank out more useful tasks than if you let yourself wallow in it all afternoon.
And while it’s tempting to send out 65 resumes to the internet ether you will have better results with one well crafted email that takes you 20 minutes to write.
#3: Forget About Being Humble
When you're a job seeker, getting caught up in imposter syndrome is easy.
So rather than something you can do, here's something you should quit doing: stop playing the comparison game. Doesn't it feel good to permit yourself to stop doing that?
Now that you’ve let that go, go forth and toot your horn for all the achievements you have under your belt. This is the time to let yourself boast. Even if it scares you a little or you’re worried about sounding “pushy”. There is a time and place for selling yourself and this is it.
If you want to dig more into how to sell yourself, why not have a look at this workbook that outlines everything you need to do to start!
#4: Brainstorm with Someone
Grab someone else and an emotional support beverage and talk about everything job searching.
Sometimes getting another set of eyes on your job search is just the thing you need to set the tone for success
It’s really easy to get wrapped up in doing it all yourself and creating a cozy, little (ahem stressful) silo. Don't be shy, share your wins and your fears with your family, spouse, a mentor, or a Coach.
Involving them will help you gain clarity around what you want to do and they’ll be able to offer insights you’re overlooking. In addition, you’ll be able to spend a little time with someone who has your best interests at heart.
If you keep your search struggles to yourself, you’ll only feel more and more overwhelmed.
If you don't know anyone who fits the bill, remember I'm available for career advice and support over on Instagram. You can also go on the hunt for the perfect accountability buddy and create your own support system!
If that sounds good, here’s how to get started:

#5: Mental Health Wellness Action Step
Sometimes the best thing you can do for your career as a whole and definitely while job searching is to focus on your wellness (both physical and mental). Whether it’s meditation, yoga, exercise, gardening, a bath or therapy.
Whether you're going for a walk through the woods and you figure out a glaring experience hole in your resume or you simply find some calm and headspace, letting your brain and body rest is one of most productive things you can do.
Key Takeaways
I hope this post has given you a roadmap for some quick big wins. Some of these you may have tried and others will likely be new. Either way, there should be enough for you to dig in!
